Uzbekistan to allow "Halal" labeling for certified products and services

The document outlines and approves the following key measures:

- The procedure for certifying products and services in accordance with "Halal" requirements;

-Periodic assessment of products and services certified for compliance with "Halal" requirements.

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposals from the Uzbekistan Technical Regulation Agency and the Committee on Religious Affairs regarding the regulation of the certification of products and services in compliance with "Halal" requirements. These proposals include:

- Establishing certification bodies for products and services in compliance with "Halal" requirements;

- Giving priority to standards adopted by the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC), which are officially recognized at the international level, in the certification of products and services and in setting requirements for them;

- Permitting the labeling of products and services with the "Halal" mark starting from May 1, 2025, provided they are certified in accordance with this resolution and the standards of the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries.

The Uzbekistan Technical Regulation Agency, together with the Committee on Religious Affairs, has been tasked with accrediting the "Halal" certification body within six months, involving internationally recognized organizations in the process.

Additionally, a standard defining the shape and size of the "Halal" mark will be developed and approved.

This resolution will come into force three months after its official publication.
