Upon obtaining Russian citizenship, M.M. was legally obligated, under Russia's Citizenship Law, to register for military service at his place of residence. However, authorities discovered that he had not completed this registration within the required timeframe, a violation that served as grounds for the termination of his citizenship.

Following the decision, the Ministry of Internal Affairs issued a notice to M.M., seizing and invalidating his Russian passport. He was given 15 days to leave the country, with deportation as a possible consequence should he fail to comply.

According to SHOT, a Russian media outlet, M.M. was offered the option to reapply for citizenship through a simplified process by enlisting in the Russian Ministry of Defense. However, he declined the proposal.
