The Directorate for the Construction of Nuclear Power Plants at the Uzatom Atomic Energy Agency and Atomstroyexport JSC (ASE JSC, Rosatom's engineering division) signed a statement to commence work at the site where the small nuclear power plant (SNPP) will be constructed in Uzbekistan.

According to the information from the Uzatom agency, the document was signed in the presence of Azim Akhmadkhojaev, Director of the Uzbekistan Atomic Energy Agency, and Nikolay Spassky, Deputy Director General of Rosatom State Corporation and Head of the International Activities Division.

"The document signed today marks a significant step towards actively launching the first small nuclear power plant project in Uzbekistan, which will enable us to begin direct construction work at the site in the near future," said Otabek Omonov.

Preliminary work on the NPP project began in June, during which the first construction headquarters was established at the site where the future nuclear power plant will be located, allowing for prioritized tasks to be identified to begin work as scheduled. By the end of August, work began on creating a shift camp for the nuclear power plant’s construction workers.

This nuclear power plant represents the first step in the comprehensive development of the region where it will operate. The area is expected to see the emergence of cultural and educational projects, medical institutions, residential settlements for people, and industrial enterprises and commercial organizations to attract workers, as highlighted by the Uzatom agency.
