It was noted that to meet the growing energy needs of the population and various sectors of the economy, all available energy sources are being utilized. In addition to traditional generation, nearly 4 gigawatts of new capacity have been brought online in recent years, and the share of renewable "green" energy has reached 16%.

"In the next five years, additional renewable energy sources with a total capacity of 25 gigawatts will be developed. This will allow for the annual generation of 64 billion kilowatt-hours of 'green' energy. By 2030, the share of 'green energy' in the country's overall energy mix is expected to exceed 50%," the statement said.

At the same time, the rapid growth of digital technologies, electric vehicles, electronic devices, artificial intelligence, and mining has significantly increased energy demand. It is emphasized that due to this, many countries are looking for ways to transition to new energy sources. Traditional fossil fuels are being replaced by renewable energy. As per recent data, 42% of global energy generation comes from alternative sources.

"In the long term, nuclear energy is seen as a preferred solution. Currently, 417 nuclear reactors with a total capacity of 375 gigawatts are in operation worldwide. New plants are being built, and many countries are including nuclear energy in their development strategies," the statement continued.

Given the country's uranium reserves, Uzbekistan plans to create long-term energy capacities. Specifically, a project for the construction of small modular reactors has already been developed. On December 5, 2024, an international conference on the use of nuclear energy was held in Samarkand.

Additionally, the meeting included a presentation of the ongoing efforts in the development of nuclear energy.

The President issued instructions to ensure the training of specialists for future nuclear stations and systems, as well as to uphold safety standards in line with the requirements of the International Atomic Energy Agency. These technologies, it was noted, will enhance the competitiveness of Uzbekistan's economy and provide a solid foundation for long-term growth.
