He scored 2,765 points, surpassing the reigning world champion, China’s Ding Liren (2762) and other famous chess players.
Norway’s Magnus Carlsen, multiple world champion, is in first place with 2,830 points. American chess players Hikaru Nakamura (2,789) and Fabiano Caruana (2,803) took the next places.
19-year-old Nodirbek Abdusattarov is the record holder among chess players of Uzbekistan. Until then, only Rustam Kosimjonov showed the highest result and took 11th place with 2,715 points.
The Elo rating system is a method of calculating the relative strength of players in two-player sports. It was developed by Hungarian/American physics professor Arpad Elo.
In chess, the Elo rating is calculated according to the results of the players’ matches against each other. The Elo rating system divides chess players into nine categories: the highest category starts at 2,600 points, the lowest category corresponds to ratings of 1,200 and below.
