“On April 14-20 of this year, in the “Yoshlar Oromgohi” (“Youth Camp”) located in the Bostanlyk district, the “WikiOromgoh” project has been organized by the Youth Affairs Agency, aimed at increasing the influence of the Uzbek language on the world Internet network.
During the camp, the participants are taught the skills of adding articles to the Uzbek Wikipedia by specialists, and work is being carried out to enrich it with articles about Uzbekistan.
Since the beginning of “WikiOromgoh”, the Uzbek Wikipedia has experienced significant growth. For example, before the start of the camp, the number of Uzbek-language articles on Wikipedia was 224,317, and in the first three days, the number of articles increased to nearly 10,000, ranking 45th in the list of world wikipedias and the 1st in Central Asia. Before that, this place was occupied by the Kazakh Wikipedia. At the moment, the number of Uzbek articles on Wikipedia has reached 233,000,” the report said.
It was noted that the “WikiOromgoh” project was organized as part of the “WikiStipendiya” project, which was launched in May of last year.
By the end of 2022, for the first time in Uzbekistan, the number of searches in the Uzbek language exceeded the number of searches in the Russian language. In the last season of the “WikiStipendiya” project, the Uzbek Wikipedia was enriched with nearly 77,000 articles and exceeded 217,000.
