As a result of operational-search activities, the State Security Service detained a 29-year-old resident of the capital, who financed the Katibat Tawhid wal-Jihad terrorist group, UzA reports.
The citizen was born in 1993 in Tashkent, in 2014 he left for the Republic of Korea on a study visa. In mid-2018, he became interested in materials of religious extremist nature and listened to lectures by ideological leaders of international terrorist organizations, after which he began distributing audio and video materials among his acquaintances.
Returning to Uzbekistan in 2020, he continued his illegal activities and intended to leave for Syria to join the terrorist organization Katibat Tawhid wal-Jihad. However, he failed to leave, and he began to financially support the militants.
Thus, during 2021-2022, through international money transfer systems and electronic applications, he sent a total of 24.2 million soums to Syria to finance jihad.
The Sergeli District Court for Criminal Cases found the man guilty of committing crimes under articles 244-1, 244-2 and 155-3 of the Criminal Code and sentenced him to 10 years and 1 month in prison.
