GRP exceeded 50 trillion
According to the regional khokim, the gross regional product (GRP) of Samarkand region increased by 8.4% compared to last year. According to the results of 2021, the volume of GRP in the region amounted to 50.8 trillion soums. That’s $4.7 billion at current exchange rates. At the end of the year, GRP amounted to 12.8 million soums per capita. According to the presentation presented by the regional administration at the time of the address, it is planned to increase the volume of GRP to 58.6 trillion soums next year. The main part of the gross regional product fell to agriculture (45.8%) and services (33.5%). Next year, the service sector in Samarkand is expected to achieve the highest growth (25.6%).
6 new markets for export
Turdimov said that in 2021, 6 new markets will be opened for Samarkand entrepreneurs. Samarkand residents have been exporting their products to Jamaica, Colombia, Qatar, Macedonia, Bangladesh and Lebanon since this year. Thus, the export geography of Samarkand products has expanded to 56 countries.
In 2021, Samarkand entrepreneurs exported products worth $402 million. That means the target has been exceeded by 16% ($55 million). According to Turdimov, the volume of exports increased by 60% compared to a year ago. In 2021, Samarkand exported $144 million worth of textiles, $125 million worth of food, $30 million worth of food and $23 million worth of metals and metal products.
Dried fruits are also actively exported. In particular, $25 million worth of raisins, $11.6 million worth of mung beans, $9 million worth of grapes, $5.5 million worth of nuts were exported. 7 types of fresh lettuce leaves, new varieties of cherries, freshly chopped celery greens and fresh varieties of cucumbers worth $700,000 were exported to Mongolia, Iraq, Kazakhstan and Russia.
274.4 billion soums for infrastructure
In 2022, 274.4 billion soums will be allocated to improve infrastructure in Samarkand region. In particular, 86 km of roads will be repaired at a cost of 59.9 billion soums. In addition, 49.7 billion soums will be allocated for the construction of 148 km of new power lines, 8.4 billion soums for the construction of 24.6 km of natural gas networks, 157.3 billion soums for the construction of 284 km of water and sewage networks.
Two central streets will be repaired at the expense of the Abu Dhabi Foundation
According to the regional khokim, the repair of Amir Temur Street in Samarkand has been delayed due to heavy traffic. Next year, Amir Temur and Gagarin streets will be repaired from wall to wall at the expense of the Abu Dhabi Foundation. Gagarin Street will be continued to the new Karasuv block in Motrid. As a result, congestion on the way to Karasuv, which has become a new town, is expected to be eliminated. According to Turdimov, two more tunnels and two overpasses will be built in Samarkand next year.
Social sphere: student dormitories will be built, $2 million worth of oncology equipment will be delivered
A number of social projects are expected to be implemented in Samarkand in 2022. Today, more than 63,000 students study at universities in the region. This is 5 times more than in the last 5 years. The khokim said that Samarkand currently needs 17.1 thousand student dormitories due to the large number of students from other regions and remote areas. For this reason, a dormitory will be built in Birlik mahalla, popularly known as Makaronka, and on the site of the former brick factory on Rodaki Street.
In his address, he also listed medical news. There will be significant changes in oncology and cardiology hospitals in the region. Internal and external radiation therapy equipment will be installed for the oncology center for €2 million. 48 types of modern equipment worth 30 billion soums will be delivered to the cardiology center. Cardiology centers will be established in Urgut and Pakhtachi.
Moreover, Turdimov said that in meetings with the population, many people ask for financial assistance, and this view should be changed: “Many people ask for financial assistance when I visit places. Citizens should strive to live well, not to seek help. We have to teach people that. Those who do not receive a salary are not provided with financial assistance, and employment offices offer them jobs.
Now the conditions for living and working in the country are being created, which is why we all need to work. If you want to work, if you want to engage in gardening, if you want to study, a subsidy will be provided. Assistant khokims, heads of sectors, the judiciary should increase people’s legal knowledge instead of sitting in the cabinet and explain these things,” Turdimov said.
Dozens of small gardens will open
After Turdimov’s address to the people of Samarkand, a press conference was held with the participation of the khokim and the mass media. Journalists asked Turdimov questions. Kun.uz journalist asked: “In recent years, parks in Samarkand are being demolished, are there any plans to open new ones?” and the khokim shared his plans for the future. He said there will also be a large park near the tourist center being built in front of the rowing canal. There are also plans to build parks in Shirin mahalla, Karasuv block. Turdimov also spoke about plans to increase the number of small recreational parks in Samarkand. “Not only shops or other buildings should be built in the vacant spaces in the city, but also parks should be built,” the khokim said.
In 4 years, cotton will be 100% processed
Turdimov noted that in 2021, Samarkand received an average of 32 quintals of cotton per hectare, which is a good figure and was achieved due to the introduction of a system of clusters. According to the address, 55.3% of Samarkand’s cotton is currently being processed. Next year, this figure is expected to reach 59.1%. By 2026, cotton grown in the region will be 100% processed.
A new coach for FC Dinamo
At the press conference, Turdimov was asked whether there are plans to build large sports facilities in the region. Answering this question, the khokim also spoke about the changes in the city’s main team Dinamo: “The Croatian coach will soon be brought to Dinamo, which won a ticket to the Super League. Dynamo spent less money than the rest of the teams and reached the Super League. We will pay more attention to it next year,” Turdimov said.
