The Code of Professional Ethics of Journalists will be adopted in Uzbekistan, Kun.uz correspondent reports.
“The code is developed with the aim of providing the population with impartial and reliable information. Also, journalists will be obliged to comply with the principles of objectivity in the preparation of information, taking into account diversity of opinions,” the Information and Mass Communications Agency noted.
The code will also envisage liability of journalists for poor quality material or distorted information prepared by them.
One of the main principles of the Code, noted at the agency, will be the establishment of professional responsibility of journalists, the protection of their rights, fair competition and collegial solidarity.
“Journalists who violate the principles and norms of the Code of Professional Ethics will be held accountable in the manner prescribed by this document,” the Information and Mass Communications Agency informed.
The code will be drafted in accordance with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UN General Assembly, 1948), the International Principles of Professional Ethics in Journalism (UNESCO, 1983), the IFJ Declaration of Principles on the Conduct of Journalists (International Federation of Journalists, World Congress, 1954), and Constitution as well as legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
