Special Representative of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Adam Abdelmoula proposed to make the Asian Forum on Human Rights traditional.

He stated this following the results of the first forum held on November 22-23 in Samarkand. Representatives of Russia, China, India, Iran, Central Asian countries, Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Mongolia, Afghanistan and a number of other states attended the event.

Based on the results of the two-day discussions, the forum participants adopted the Samarkand Declaration on Human Rights. This document will contribute to an even more effective implementation of the objectives stipulated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Sustainable Development Goals.

In addition, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Senate of Oliy Majlis, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights and the OSCE Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan.

The Asian Forum on Human Rights is the first international platform in Central Asia that focuses on discussing important issues and problems in the field of human rights in the region. The initiative to create the forum belongs to the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
