WeChat Pay may enter Uzbek market through local system integration

The Central Bank of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting with a delegation from Tencent Cloud International, a subsidiary of the Chinese tech giant Tencent Holdings Ltd, according to the Central Bank’s press service.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed opportunities for bilateral cooperation in the development of digital technologies and cloud infrastructure in Uzbekistan.
"The parties explored the potential integration of WeChat Pay – Tencent Holdings Ltd’s digital payment platform – with Uzbekistan’s local payment systems, the facilitation of QR-code-based transactions, and broader prospects for collaboration in this area," the statement said.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties agreed to support joint initiatives in the payments sector and outlined plans for future cooperation.
