The forum, attended by over 200 representatives from companies, investment firms, and financial institutions from both countries, featured President Mirziyoyev and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, according to the presidential press service.
Malaysian businesses were represented by major companies, including Petronas, MMC Corporation, DRB-Hicom, Gemilang Coachwork, Proton, Gentari, Five Petroleum, YTL Corporation, Sunview Group, KPJ Healthcare, MK Tron, Mimos, Sparco Engineering, Tradewinds Group, Kapital DX, Gamuda, Westports, Khazanah, EXIM Bank of Malaysia, and many others.
President Mirziyoyev outlined key areas for the development of Uzbek-Malaysian business cooperation:
- Electronics and Semiconductor Industry: There are opportunities to expand long-term cooperation in electronics and semiconductor manufacturing, as well as to implement projects in artificial intelligence, digital technologies, and the creation of data centers.
- Gas-Chemical and Chemical Industries: Strategic projects are being prepared for the production of polymers, "green" hydrogen, and ammonia, with a focus on sustainable growth in these sectors.
- Construction Industry: The president invited Malaysian companies to take an active role in creating modern manufacturing plants and participating in large-scale construction projects across Uzbekistan’s regions.
- Healthcare: The collaboration would involve the construction of state-of-the-art clinics and the production of innovative pharmaceutical products based on Malaysia's expertise in the field.
- Food Security: There is a strong interest in joint projects aimed at implementing "smart" agricultural technologies, producing organic products, and promoting "Halal" standards.
Additionally, President Mirziyoyev extended an invitation for Malaysian companies and banks to actively engage in the privatization of state assets in telecommunications, energy, banking, and other sectors of Uzbekistan's economy.
The president also highlighted the potential for cooperation in several other areas, such as geology, education, transportation, and pilgrimage tourism.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev praised the keen interest of Malaysian entrepreneurs in joint investment projects and their willingness to share advanced technologies and knowledge.
Moreover, he announced the establishment of a special economic zone in Tashkent Region, to be managed by a Malaysian company.
In closing, President Mirziyoyev proposed hosting the next joint business forum in Uzbekistan in the fall of this year.
