According to the press secretary of the Ministry of Energy, 12 agreements have been signed over the past five years with foreign companies under public-private partnership frameworks. These agreements aim to meet the increasing demand for electricity and ensure a reliable power supply for the population, social sectors, and industries.
Under these agreements, 12 modern thermal power plants with a total capacity of 7,057 MW will be commissioned in Uzbekistan by the end of 2027.
The projects are being financed through $4.86 billion in direct foreign investments from internationally renowned companies based in Germany, France, the Netherlands, Japan, Qatar, and Turkey.
As a result of the work carried out in 2022, six new power facilities with a total capacity of 1,374 MW were commissioned in the Bukhara, Tashkent, Khorezm, and Syrdarya regions. Additionally, in 2023–2024, a thermal power plant with a capacity of 1,500 MW was commissioned in Shirin city and Bayaut district of the Syrdarya region, bringing the total new capacity added to 2,874 MW.
Based on agreements signed with foreign companies, an additional five new thermal power plants with a total capacity of 4,183 MW are planned to be launched by 2027.
Specifically:
• In 2024, a power plant with a capacity of 400 MW will be launched in Nishan district, Kashkadarya region.
• A 100 MW power plant will be commissioned at the 4th thermal station in Tashkent.
• In 2025–2026, a power plant with a capacity of 1,573 MW will be launched in Bayaut district, Syrdarya region.
• In 2027, a 1,560 MW power plant will be launched in Angor district, Surkhandarya region.
• A 550 MW power plant will be launched in Sharaf-Rashidov district, Jizzakh region.
