Uzbekistan appoints new ambassador to Sweden
Rahmatulla Nurimbetov, Uzbekistan's newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Sweden, arrived in Stockholm last night to assume his post. Prior to his appointment, Nurimbetov served as Deputy Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan from 2023 to 2024.

At 47 years old, Nurimbetov brings a wealth of diplomatic experience. He holds a Doctor of Science (DsC) degree in Political Science and graduated from several prestigious institutions, including the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies (now the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies), and the National University of Uzbekistan.
Nurimbetov began his career at the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of Uzbekistan and has been part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2003. Over the years, he has held various roles within the ministry's central apparatus, as well as at Uzbekistan's embassies in Germany and Spain, rising to the rank of Deputy Foreign Minister. From 2018 to 2024, he also served as Uzbekistan's national coordinator for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Nurimbetov replaces Nodir Ganiev, who served as Uzbekistan’s ambassador to Sweden from 2022 to 2024.
