The Assistant to the President of Uzbekistan, Saida Mirziyoyeva, expressed hope that Olympic champion Diyora Keldiyorova will become a role model for thousands of girls in Uzbekistan.
"Look how in recent days, Kazakhstani people have been rejoicing over the victories of Uzbek athletes, and our fans have been applauding your champions. The first gold medals at the Olympics were won by Yeldos Smetov from Kazakhstan and Diyora Keldiyorova from Uzbekistan," Mirziyoyeva said at the opening ceremony of the international tournament Zakovat Asian Cup in Astana.
"Diyora, we are proud of you. I really hope that Diyora will become a role model for thousands of girls in our country," she noted.
Judoka Diyora Keldiyorova brought gold to the Uzbekistan team at the Paris Olympic Games. In the final of the under 52 kg weight category, she defeated Kosovo athlete Distria Krasniqi and became the first female athlete from Uzbekistan to win a gold medal at the Summer Olympics.
