Court orders psychiatric treatment for man who insulted president and spread extremism on Facebook

On July 11 of this year, at an open session of the Kattakurgan District Court on criminal cases, the criminal case against I.B., who was accused of committing socially dangerous acts under Article 158, Part 3, Article 154, Part 4, and Article 244-1, Part 3, Clause "g" of the Criminal Code, was reviewed.

According to preliminary investigation documents, I.B., with the intent to attack the President of Uzbekistan, used his officially registered phone number to create a personal profile on the social network Facebook using a Redmi 8-I mobile device. From early March 2023 to the end of May 2023, he insulted the President of Uzbekistan in the discussion section of a channel named "Oka Jon."

Additionally, I.B. continued his criminal activities with the intent to attack the constitutional order. In the discussion section of the "Oka Jon" channel on Facebook, he wrote, "Uzbekistan is filled with infidels, it needs to be taken over, and a caliphate must be established." He called for a coup and incited citizens to overthrow the government.

Furthermore, I.B. continued spreading ideas of religious extremism, separatism, and fundamentalism in the discussion section of the "Oka Jon" channel on Facebook.

According to the court's verdict, the defendant I.B. was found to have committed socially dangerous acts under Article 158, Part 3, Article 154, Part 4, and Article 244-1, Part 3, Clause "g" of the Criminal Code while in a state of insanity.

I.B., who is currently detained in the No. 7 investigative detention center of the 3rd regional division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, was ordered to undergo compulsory treatment in a psychiatric hospital with enhanced supervision according to Article 93, Clause "g" of the Criminal Code. He was assigned to the Republican Psychiatric Hospital with enhanced supervision in Tashkent under the Ministry of Health for treatment.
