Police officer suspected of killing a detainee in Bekabad DIA building detained

Earlier, the regional police department reported that a man who caused a scandal in the courthouse in Bekabad over the verdict against his brother was taken to the police department along with his other brother. At the entrance to the DIA building, “he became ill and was taken to the hospital”, where doctors recorded the citizen’s death.

However, relatives of the deceased told Gazeta.uz that the cause of death of the 43-year-old man was physical torture by police officers inside the DIA building.

Dilshod Yusupvaliev, the brother of the deceased Dilmurod Yusupvaliev, who was with him at the police department, stated that he and his brother were beaten by about 10 police officers.

“They say that one policeman was taken into custody in connection with my brother’s case. I don’t want just one to be detained and the rest to be hidden so that this becomes a game. I request that action be taken against all eight employees involved in the incident. I would like more attention to be paid to the head of the Bekabad police department,” he said.

Earlier, the MIA press secretary, Shokhrukh Giyasov, said that the department was investigating the situation together with the prosecutor’s office, video recordings had been received, the testimony of witnesses and participants in the incident was being checked, and the necessary forensic examinations had been ordered.
