The Namangan city court on criminal proceedings sentenced two citizens who tried to illegally export gold from Uzbekistan for sale in India, the press service of the State Security Service reported.
On July 24, 2023, the Cobalt car moving en route Namangan – Tashkent was stopped and inspected during a quick operation conducted by employees of the Namangan Regional SSS Department and the customs department.
A 46-year-old passenger, K.N., who lives in Namangan city, was found to have a gold jewelry in the form of a semi-finished gold chain.
Also, a Lacetti car moving in the same direction in the Pop district was stopped and inspected. 33-year-old passenger G.O., a resident of Namangan city, was found to have 29 pieces of semi-finished gold jewelry in the form of chains.
As it turned out, G.O. bought large quantities of bullion from strangers and made chains for later sale through jewelers.
In turn, K.N., bypassing customs control at Tashkent airport, planned to take gold jewelry to India for sale.
According to the experts’ conclusion, the weight of 30 pieces of semi-finished gold is 1 kilogram 516 grams, and the value is 1 billion 46 million soums.
A criminal case was initiated against G.O. and K.N. under Article 182-2, Paragraph “a”, through Article 25, of the Criminal Code (mass violation of customs legislation). The Namangan city court on criminal proceedings sentenced G.O. to 3 years in prison and K.N. – 2 years.
