A delegation from Afghanistan visited the International Trade Center in Termiz, according to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan.
F. Azizi, Chief Advisor to the Afghan interim government's Minister of Industry and Trade, conducted negotiations with representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI). The parties discussed the development of export-import operations and the role of the new complex in expanding cooperation.
The meeting addressed the possibility of extending the period during which Afghan citizens may stay visa-free at the center to 15 days, an increase from the current 10-day limit.
The guests were also acquainted with the trade center's activities. They viewed available retail shops and warehouses for rent, as well as hospitals, hotels, and educational centers for citizens of neighboring countries.
The International Trade Center in Termiz is being constructed to serve transit cargo transportation between Uzbekistan and South Asia. Its first phase became operational in December 2022.
According to estimates presented at the project's initial presentation in 2021, the center’s annual turnover could reach $500 million, with service volumes at $10 million. The center will accommodate 1,800 commercial units, as well as a hotel with 300 beds.
At the end of February, the President approved the creation of the "Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan" free trade zone. Citizens of the neighboring republic, as well as foreigners arriving through its territory, will be able to stay within its borders visa-free for up to 15 days.
