On February 28, a meeting of the Defense and Security Affairs Committee was held in the Senate. In it, information was heard about the cooperation work of the MIA in 2023 with the relevant ministries and agencies on the prevention and prevention of crimes.

It was reported that 82.7% of the total crimes committed in Uzbekistan in 2023 were revealed, 7,563 wanted persons were caught, and 450 missing persons were found. As a result of quick search activities, 6,455 crimes committed using information technology tools were detected.

By the end of the year, no crime was committed in 2,972 mahallas out of 9,442 throughout the republic, or 31.5%. 2,298 mahallas with increased crimes or 24.3% were included in the “red” category.

More than 40,000 women who have been subjected to harassment and violence have been issued protection warrants. As a result of preventive measures, 17,327 families were reconciled, and 1,450 women who faced family problems and violence were placed in Women’s Rehabilitation and Adaptation Centers.

Along with the positive work done at the meeting, it was mentioned that there are certain shortcomings, issues that are waiting for their solution.

In particular, in 2023, 104,096 crimes were registered in the country, of which 74,202 or 71.3% were committed in the reporting year. The total number of crimes in the country was 289 per 100,000 inhabitants. This negative indicator was 735 in Tashkent city, 415 in Tashkent region, 378 in Syrdarya, 328 in Fergana.

It is noted that due to the slowness of prophylactic inspectors, the crimes that could be prevented still constitute a significant part of the total crimes.

Also, due to family unrest, failure to solve conflicts in time, and unawareness of the community activists and the general public, serious crimes have been committed.

In particular, 141 or 38.8% of 363 murders committed in 12 months of 2023 were caused by family conflicts.

As a result of insufficient attention to the elimination of youth problems, crimes committed among young people and minors in 2023 increased by 5.3% compared to 2022.

It was also noted at the meeting that the number of traffic accidents is increasing day by day.

In 2023, due to the fact that the effective control on ensuring the safety of passengers on highways is not fully and effectively established, a total of more than 16 million violations, including more than 13 million serious violations, about 42 thousand driving under the influence of alcohol, and more than 300 thousand pedestrian violations were recorded.

As a result of this, 9,839 traffic accidents occurred, in which 9,209 citizens were injured and 2,282 citizens died. In 2023, there were 1,794 traffic accidents involving children, in which 1,568 children were injured and 263 children died.
