Uzbekistan to allocate $470 million for gas pipeline upgrades to boost Russian gas imports

Uztransgaz, the national gas company of Uzbekistan, will invest $470 million to modernize gas pipelines for the purpose of increasing the import of natural gas from Russia. This decision was sanctioned by the Cabinet of Ministers.

According to the document, this investment project will be implemented from 2024 to 2030 and financed through loans secured from foreign banks.

Last summer, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Energy, Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, and the head of Gazprom, Alexey Miller, signed a contract for the delivery of Russian gas to Uzbekistan. The contract, designed for two years, entails the annual supply of 2.8 billion cubic meters of gas. The transit will be executed through the Central Asia – Center gas pipeline.

On October 7, 2023, the presidents of Uzbekistan, Russia, and Kazakhstan initiated the delivery of Russian gas to Uzbekistan.
