24-year-old prisoner commits suicide in Navoi
A 24-year-old prisoner who was kept in a colony in the city of Navoi committed suicide. The Ombudsman press service said that he was on the list of mentally unstable prisoners, and was isolated the day before his death due to his "unusual behavior".

On December 25, a convict committed suicide in penal colony No. 11 in the city of Navoi, Navoi region, the press service of the human rights representative (Ombudsman) reported.
It is said that the prisoner hanged himself inside the cell.
It was found out that according to the decision of Taylak district court of Samarkand region on November 10, 2021, the 24-year-old convict F.K. was sentenced to 14 years and 6 months in prison under Article 97-1 (Deliberate murder) and Article 60 (Sentencing due to multiple convictions) of the Criminal Code.
According to the Ombudsman, the deceased was previously on the list of prisoners with a predisposition to other mental disorders. While serving his sentence, he was treated 2 times in the psychiatric department of the specialized hospital for prisoners No. 23.
"Family members of the deceased did not come to a short and long-term meeting during his sentence. It was found out that the convict F.K. only talked with them 6 times by phone," the Ombudsman said in a statement.
Due to his "unusual behavior", other prisoners in the institution did not want to sit in the same cell with F.K., he had been placed separately since 24 December 2023.
The special prosecutor's office is investigating the case.
