Uzbekistan ranked 94th out of 177 countries in the 2023 Women Peace and Security Index report (.pdf).

This is one of the worst indicators among Central Asian countries. Turkmenistan (ranked 58th in the overall ranking) took the first place in the region. The next places were occupied by Kazakhstan (70th) and Tajikistan (90th); Kyrgyzstan (95th) followed Uzbekistan.

The best indicators in the world are recorded in Denmark, Switzerland and Sweden, and the worst in Afghanistan, Yemen and the Central African Republic.

When preparing the WPS rating, the authors take into account the situation in countries according to 13 indicators divided into three categories:

- inclusiveness (education, access to financial services, employment, use of mobile phones, percentage of women in parliament);
- justice (absence of legal discrimination, access to justice, maternal mortality rate, bias);
- security (protection from domestic violence, women’s perception of their safety in society, political violence against women, proximity to armed conflicts).

Data for the report was collected from sources such as UN agencies, the World Bank, Gallup polls, and others.

The authors of the WPS Index note that countries where women feel comfortable are generally more prosperous, peaceful, democratic and prepared better for the effects of climate change.
