On September 25, the Senate Committee on Youth, Culture, and Sports held its regular meeting.
At the meeting, the law “On additions and amendments to the Criminal Code in connection with the further liberalization of criminal liability against minors” was discussed.
The law stipulates that a person who has served a sentence for a non-serious crime committed before the age of eighteen is considered unconvicted.
The law envisages reducing the minimum period of restriction of liberty and deprivation of liberty for minors from six months to one month.
In 2021, 1,472 juveniles were convicted in Uzbekistan, and in 2022, this number increased to 2,116. In 2022, there were 389 crimes of low social risk, and the number of less serious crimes was 510.
The appropriate decision of the committee was made regarding the issues on the meeting agenda.
