Investment of nearly $1 billion spent in 5 years to improve the water supply system in Uzbekistan

Senators raised the issue of improving drinking water supply for residents of Birlik and Yorqin mahallas in Zafarabad district, Jizzakh region. It is planned to allocate 7 billion soums for the new construction of drinking water pipelines with a diameter of 450 mm and a length of 13.5 km to the territory of these mahallas.

The Senate Committee on Agrarian and Water Management was appointed to be responsible for this issue, and work was carried out to find a solution to the issue in cooperation with relevant ministries and agencies.

It was reported that Uzsuvtaminot JSC, Jizzakh regional administration formed a working group, and “Fayz communal construction” LLC built 15 km of drinking water systems worth 7.2 billion soums. As a result, the residents of both mahallas were provided with drinking water.

In recent years, a lot of work is being done to improve the drinking water supply system in the republic. About $1 billion have been invested for this purpose in the last five years.

According to the data, during the period of 2017-2023, construction works were carried out at a total of 5,870 facilities, and about 32,000 km of drinking and wastewater networks were built and reconstructed. As a result of these works, the drinking water supply of 11.8 million people improved, and 6.6 million people were provided with drinking water for the first time.

In Uzbekistan, it is planned to increase the level of centralized drinking water supply to 90% by 2030: in 2023-2030, more than 50,000 km of drinking water networks and 2,000 facilities are planned to be built and reconstructed throughout the republic. 28.5 trillion soums (18 trillion soums with the participation of international financial institutions) will be allocated for these works.

Currently, 25.6% of the population in the republic is supplied with drinking water using special equipment. One out of every five existing 10,942 water facilities, 26.5% of 89,000 km of central and internal networks are under repair.
