The Ministry of Natural Resources and the Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute (KEITI) have agreed to provide a grant, the ministerial website reports.
A $6.6 million grant will be used to implement a waste management project in the Jizzakh region. It includes the processing of landfill gas into electricity, as well as the disposal of medical and biological waste.
The capacity of the future power plant operating on landfill gas will be from 500 kW to 1 MW. Also, a facility for the incineration of medical waste for 5-10 tons per day will be established in the region.
The project also provides for the construction of 5 new landfills and 6 waste transfer stations. The grant money will also be used to purchase garbage containers, waste disposal and composting equipment.
In addition, the parties discussed plans to open a regional office of KEITI in Central Asia in Tashkent. The head of the institute, Choi Hyun Jin, expressed his desire to further develop cooperation with Uzbekistan.
