According to the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN, Sergiy Kyslytsya, Russia wanted to remove the mention of aggression against Ukraine from the resolution, but the document was adopted by 122 votes.

The resolution was also supported by BRICS members - China, India and Brazil, Kazakhstan and Armenia from the CIS countries, Hungary and Turkey from the European “friends” of the Russian Federation, as well as a number of Arab countries, which are considered “allies” of Russia.

In turn, Russia, Belarus, Nicaragua, Syria and North Korea opposed the resolution.

Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and 15 other countries abstained, including Ethiopia, Senegal, Iraq and Iran.

The document speaks of the unprecedented challenges facing Europe after the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, and before that against Georgia. It also calls for redress for the damage caused to the victims of the aggression.

Earlier, when discussing the document, the Russian representative called for the removal of the paragraph condemning Russia from the document, accusing Western countries of “politicizing” the resolution.
