In July 2020, the President signed a decree “On measures to radically improve the system for ensuring seismic safety of the population and territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan”.

In the document, the MES, the Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Construction were instructed to develop a methodological manual for citizens “On the implementation of appropriate actions and activities during an earthquake”.

Later, the MES employees fulfilled the presidential order and the methodological manual was published on the agency’s website.

The manual also published a list of cities and towns in Uzbekistan located in seismically active zones.

“In the republic, all construction work is carried out on the basis of building codes and regulations. The general map of seismic zoning, which was developed by the Institute of Seismology of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, serves as the basis for building codes and regulations. The building codes and regulations indicate the seismicity of all major cities and towns in the form of a table,” the document reads.

The table indicates that 359 settlements on the territory of the republic are located in seismically active zones. In these places, earthquakes can be from 7 to 9 points or even higher.

* - settlements where seismic microterritorial work was carried out are indicated. Maps of these settlements are at the disposal of Davarkhitekkurilish.

9* - settlements in which seismicity is above 9 points, located in areas where an earthquake can exceed 7.1 points.

It should be recalled that recently the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Uzbekistan published an appeal to residents of Uzbekistan after a strong earthquake.
