Senate chairperson meets with new U.S. ambassador to Uzbekistan

At the beginning of the meeting, the Senate chairperson warmly congratulated the ambassador on his appointment to a high and responsible position. During the meeting, attention was paid to the current state and prospects of Uzbekistan-U.S. cooperation, including the expansion of inter-parliamentary relations.

The Senate Chairperson emphasized that inter-parliamentary relations should become one of the important mechanisms of further strengthening of comprehensive strategic partnership between the countries. He noted that the current stage of strategic cooperation should also reflect the close relations at the level of the parliament, and the importance of ensuring the consistency of dialogues in raising mutual relations to a higher level.

During the conversation, the role and effectiveness of the work of the “Uzbekistan Caucus” (friendship group) formed in the House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress in expanding the relations between the parliaments of the two countries was emphasized.

Ambassador Jonathan Henick expressed his gratitude for the reception and mentioned that he was in Uzbekistan 26 years ago, and he witnessed great positive changes in all areas of the country during the past time. Appreciating the results achieved in the issues of human rights, labor relations, and gender equality in Uzbekistan, he emphasized that Uzbekistan’s experience in completely eliminating child labor and forced labor can be shown as an example to the whole world, and other countries should study the Uzbek experience in this regard.

During the meeting, it was noted that the active development of trade-economic relations, mutual visits of representatives of various sectors of Uzbekistan and the U.S.A. in the activation of this process, this approach will serve to expand bilateral relations in terms of quality.

During the dialogue, opinions were exchanged on the development of political, trade-economic, social, cultural-humanitarian cooperation, including women’s entrepreneurship, strengthening the role of women in society, ensuring gender equality.
