Saudi Arabia’s Acwa Power has started construction of two wind power plants with a capacity of 500 MW each in Peshku and Gijduvan districts. The construction of the stations will be completed in 2024.
According to the Ministry of Energy, the construction of wind power plants with a total capacity of 1б000 MW has begun in the Gijduvan and Peshku districts of Bukhara.
It was reported that Saudi Arabian Acwa Power company signed a 25-year contract with Uzbekistan’s National Electricity Networks Company to implement the project.
According to the director of Acwa Power Uzbekistan, Bakhtiyor Eshnayev, financing of wind power stations is carried out with the support of international financial institutions.
“Bukhara region is a very favorable place for wind power plants. Therefore, the wind power stations “Bash” and “Jankeldi” will be located in the Bukhara region. The advantage of this is that the wind blows 24/7 and allows for 24/7 electricity generation. Stations with a capacity of 1 GW (1,000 MW) account for 6.3% of the electricity produced in the republic,” he said in an interview with “Uzbekistan 24” channel.
According to the ministerial press service, the stations generate 3.6 billion KW of electricity per year, as a result of which 1.1 billion cubic meters of natural gas are saved (per year).
At the same time, wind power plants provide electricity to 1 million households.
It should be recalled that the presidential decree on the construction of wind power plants in two districts of Bukhara was signed in 2021.
