In addition to the assets of Gulnara Karimova and the organized group led by her, located in Switzerland, efforts are being made to return their criminal assets from other foreign countries. Deputy Minister of Justice Muzraf Ikromov informed about this.
The total value of criminal assets is about $1.3 billion. According to the Deputy Minister of Justice, these funds amount to 14.3 trillion soums, and more than 1,400 schools can be built at their expense.
Republic of France
As a result of the sale of real estate (2 mansions near the city of Paris) belonging to members of an organized criminal group in 2020 and 2021, funds equal to $20 million were returned to Uzbekistan.
Kingdom of Belgium
The Kingdom of Belgium has also accommodated assets belonging to organized crime groups. In order to return them, cooperation between the official organizations of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the law enforcement bodies of Belgium has been established.
Due to the pending investigation in Belgium (investigative secrecy), it is not possible to disclose much information about these assets.
Great Britain
The fate of funds in the amount of £10 million and 3 real estates belonging to Gulnara Karimova and her partners in Great Britain is in the process of consideration in the High Court of London.
Republic of Latvia
The Republic of Latvia also has a number of assets. Judgments issued in the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2018 (on confiscation of assets located in Latvia to the income of Uzbekistan) were recognized by Latvian judicial authorities.
Assets include $15 million in cash, 850 ounces (24.1 kg) of gold certificates, and a cultural-entertainment complex in Riga.
It is noted that all the work in this regard is not being carried out easily. For example, difficulties arise in the return of the above assets in Latvia. Despite this, the work on the return of assets in this country continues with strict consistency.
Russian Federation
In November 2021, the decision of the Moscow City Court was issued on the transfer of assets located in the city of Moscow (6 apartments) to the income of Uzbekistan.
Currently, the process of selling these real estate objects by Russian bailiffs continues. The proceeds of the sale will be divided in equal shares for the benefit of Uzbekistan and Russia.
In addition, work is being carried out in other countries to return the assets illegally acquired and taken out of Uzbekistan by Gulnara Karimova and her criminal partners. The total value of criminal assets is about $1.3 billion.
According to the Ministry’s estimates, these funds amount to 14.3 trillion soums and more than 1,400 schools can be built at their expense.
Earlier, it was reported that the value of Gulnara Karimova’s assets to be recovered in Switzerland is approximately $686 million.
Currently, $131 million is being returned and will be directed to the education and health sectors. A council consisting of international organizations, NGOs, journalists and bloggers has been formed to oversee this process.
