During the event, it was discovered that one of the group members, who lives in the Kurgantepa district of Andijan region, had an underground passage to Kyrgyzstan from his house. It was 1 square meter wide, 12.5 meters deep and 150 meters long.
In the Birlik mahalla of this district, there was another underground road with a length of 420 meters. The subway, which is intended for access to Kyrgyzstan, is lined with hand-made steel tracks on which an electric motor cart is mounted. Thus, illegal goods and currency were smuggled from Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan and from Kyrgyzstan to Uzbekistan.
The criminal group consisted of two citizens of Uzbekistan and six citizens of Kyrgyzstan. The group was led by a Kyrgyz citizen born in 1974. Members of the criminal group used a conditional communication method in conversation to avoid being noticed by law enforcement bodies. The group members smuggled a large amount of currency into Uzbekistan from the Dustlik border checkpoint in Andijan. Later the money was taken back to Kyrgyzstan via underground. The declaration was intended to be used in possible inspections in Kokand and Tashkent.
Members of the criminal group were arrested, and their actions were proven by evidence. On May 25, the Narin district court on criminal proceedings sentenced the group members to 6 to 8 years in prison.
Another underground tunnel in Kurgantepa was dug under the Shahrikhansay canal, which separates Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. This underground road is 16 meters deep and 70 meters long. This secret road is “equipped” with a special lighting and oxygen supply system. A criminal case has been opened against the citizen who dug this road and the investigation is underway.
On these cases, the Uzbek State Security Service provided the Kyrgyz side with information about the addresses and organizers of the three underground roads leading to the territory of the neighboring country, and asked to take legal action. In May-June this year, during an event held by representatives of the neighboring state, the operation of underground roads was suspended.
