Head of Andijan regional public education department detained following the city khokim

Azizbek Mirkomilov, head of the Andijan regional public education department, is suspected of embezzling 48 billion soums from the state budget, which earlier led to the detention of the Andijan city khokim. After the dismissal of the former regional prosecutor and the appointment of a new prosecutor in February, the former and current heads of the Andijan regional education department were taken into custody, and about 40 more people were involved in the investigation into the embezzlement of 57 billion soums.

Azizbek Mirkomilov, head of the public education department in the Andijan region, was detained on June 7 on suspicion of embezzling 48 billion soums from the state budget.

The press service of the regional public education department confirmed this news to Kun.uz correspondent and said that an investigation was underway.

Mirkomilov has been in his current position since February 2020.

On June 7, the khokim of Andijan city Bakhromjon Khaydarov was detained in connection with this case. The khokim is suspected of embezzling 48 billion soums from the budget, along with accomplices, during his tenure as head of the regional finance department.

In May, as part of the investigation by the Prosecutor General’s Office, 37 defendants were charged, 32 of whom were detained, 23% of the damage was covered. The investigation is being conducted by the PGO Office for Combating Organized Crime and Corruption.

It should be recalled that in December last year, the prosecutor of the Andijan region, Gayrat Fozilov, was dismissed, and in January, Sirojiddin Eshkuvvatov was appointed to this position.

In February, it turned out that Andijan officials were suspected of embezzling 57 billion soums from the state budget. Kun.uz,   relying on the data of its sources, reported that the former and current heads of the department, Sunbula Eraliyeva and Nuriddin Nazarov, were detained, and the number of those under investigation was approaching 40. Then the Prosecutor General’s Office promised to reveal the details of this crime later.

At the end of May, it was reported that Andijan region leads in terms of the number of corruption crimes and corruption complaints.
