The MIFT recalls that Masdar has successfully implemented the project of the first 100 MW solar photovoltaic plant in Uzbekistan, which was solemnly introduced in August 2021 in the Navoi region.
During the meeting, the parties discussed topical issues on the cooperation agenda, including the possibility of accelerating the implementation of large investment projects in the energy sector in Uzbekistan.
Mohamed Al Ramahi informed that Masdar plans to start construction: in August 2022 – a wind power plant with a capacity of 500 MW in the Navoi region, and in December – photovoltaic stations with a total capacity of 897 MW in Surkhandarya, Jizzakh and Samarkand regions.
The implementation of these projects will help Uzbekistan achieve its goals of increasing the amount of electricity generated from solar and wind energy to 8 GW and bringing the share of alternative energy sources in the country’s total energy balance to 25% by 2026, which will reduce Uzbekistan’s energy dependence on gas and coal.
