Uzbekistan takes part in the work of the 19th session of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which began its work in the city of Jeddah (Saudi Arabia).
The delegation of our country is headed by First Deputy Director of the National Center for Human Rights (NCHR) Mirzatillo Tillabayev and Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the OIC, Ambassador Ulugbek Maksudov.
The topic of the current session is “The role of national human rights institutions in the promotion and protection of human rights in the OIC member states”.
The session was opened by the chairman of the commission, Haci Ali Acikgul, who addressed the participants of the event – members of the OIC-IPHRC, representatives of member countries and observer states of the organization, national human rights institutions, and experts from international organizations with words of welcome.
During the thematic session, which is being held jointly with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights for the first time, the prospects for the formation of the most optimal national models for protecting all human rights, including the promotion of development rights in the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, were discussed.
The head of the Uzbek delegation Mirzatillo Tillabayev, in his speech, informed about the latest achievements made by the national human rights institutions of Uzbekistan in the field of human rights protection, the close cooperation of the NCHR with the UN human rights structures and the OIC-IPHRC.
Within the framework of the session, the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between the NCHR and the OIC-IPHRC took place.
The document was signed on behalf of the Uzbek side by the First Deputy Director of the NCHR Mirzatillo Tillabayev, on behalf of the OIC-IPHRC – by the chairman of the commission, Haci Ali Acikgul.
