The GGGI country office in Uzbekistan is the first representative office of the Institute among the CIS countries, in particular in Central Asia.
The Global Green Growth Institute is an international intergovernmental organization headquartered in Seoul (South Korea). The organization was established on June 20, 2012 in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) within the framework of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development.
The goal of the organization is to promote sustainable economic growth through the development of a green economy in countries that are developing in a changing climate and have chosen a market economy.
Currently, the institute is implementing 54 projects in more than 30 countries around the world. The President of the Assembly and the Chairman of the Council of the Institute is the former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
In 2022, the State Committee for Ecology and the Global Green Growth Institute launched a joint project aimed at financing the green restoration of the Aral Sea region in order to overcome the negative consequences of the Aral Sea recession. The total cost of the project is $5.65 million.
The project is funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). The aim of the project is to contribute to the green rehabilitation of the Republic of Karakalpakstan to overcome the consequences of the Aral Sea recession, as well as to identify measures to ensure sustainable livelihoods and resilience to natural disasters.
During the event, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Global Green Growth Institute and the Interstate Commission on Sustainable Development on cooperation in the field of green growth and climate change relevant to the Aral Sea basin.
