Murod Azimov was born in 1976 in Kashkadarya region. In 1998, he graduated from the Tashkent Law Institute. He worked as an investigator in the Karshi city prosecutor's office, as a prosecutor in the Kashkadarya regional prosecutor's office, and later as a deputy regional prosecutor and a district prosecutor.
In 2014, he was appointed prosecutor of Bukhara region, where he worked until 2016. From September 2016 to February 2018, he served as Deputy Prosecutor General of Uzbekistan.
In February 2018, Major General Murod Azimov was appointed Chairman of the Customs Committee. He replaced Muidjan Tohiriy as head of the committee.
