Age of criminal responsibility may shift from 13 to 14 years in Uzbekistan
Deputies of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis considered the draft law on amendments and additions to the Criminal Code.

On August 9, 2021, the President signed a decree “On measures to further improve the system of ensuring the guarantees of the child rights”. The document states about the liberalization of the criminal responsibility of children.
The decree instructed to prepare a draft law on amendments and additions to the Criminal Code, providing for raising the age of criminal prosecution from thirteen to fourteen years.
As the deputy Rasul Kusherbayev reported, recently the MPs considered and discussed this bill.
He stated that in such developed countries as Germany, Italy, Spain and Japan, the age of criminal responsibility is set at 14 years.
“We can say that these changes are one more step towards humanity,” the deputy said.
