Secondary School No. 47 in Samarkand started the academic year with a new format. The school’s opening ceremony was attended by honoured guests: a delegation of the VEON Group of Companies represented by the Chairman of the Holding Board of Directors, Gennady Gazin; Chief Executive Officer, Kaan Terzioglu; Advisor of the Holding Boris Tadic; and CEO of Beeline Uzbekistan, Andrzej Malinowski, as well as the Minister of Public Education Sherzod Shermatov and Deputy Khokim of the Samarkand Region Khurshid Ochilov.

Beeline Uzbekistan, as a member of the state program, has allocated around 1 billion UZS towards re-generating the educational institution. As a result, school classrooms were converted into light and spacious computer science, mathematics, English, esports and robotics classrooms equipped with computers, and the digital library is now open to its first readers. The modern classrooms are now equipped with interactive touch whiteboards, monitors and electronic boards. Each classroom has also been equipped with video surveillance and air conditioning systems. Students can now easily connect to the Internet from computers, meaning students will be able to seriously engage in IT projects, study IT technologies, and learn how to work with vast stores of data. The distinguished guests noted the results of the ambitious scope of the school’s modernization with interest and communicated with students and teachers.

“Uzbekistan is a fast-growing and dynamic country, which is a strategically important region for our company. VEON is proud to support the country's educational projects, help in the development of talents from the moment of their entering school up to the moment of choosing a profession, and provide assistance in finding employment and joining the Beeline Uzbekistan team as well, in particular to our BeeLab IT services research and development center. We know that 2021 is the Year of Youth Support and Public Health Promotion in Uzbekistan. It is a great honor for us to become a member in a large-scale program and make a feasible contribution to the education of the younger generation. After all, education is the driver of social investment today,” commented Kaan Terzioglu, Chief Executive Officer of the VEON Group of Companies.

This is the second secondary educational institution in the company has participated in the development of. The first, a school in Jizzakh, after the repairs and modernization sponsored by Beeline Uzbekistan earlier this year, was rewarded the status of a specialized school affording intensive study of computer science and information technology.

“This is one more very interesting and important social project for us. The school in Samarkand was one of those that needed the most repair. Our employees closely monitored the modernization process and dedicated their free time to do some work voluntarily. Therefore, I can safely say that the work was done professionally and on time. I am sure that the conditions we created here will help the children acquire knowledge and skills that will definitely be useful in their future, and they will become in-demand specialists,” commented Beeline Uzbekistan CEO, Andrzej Malinowski, on the event.

The event ended with a traditional keepsake photo. The VEON delegation visited not only the famous sights of the ancient city, but also the new presidential school in Samarkand.
