Refugees from Afghanistan cross the Uzbek-Afghan border, where it stands in the middle of the Amu Darya, on rafts made from plastic bottles.

TASS reports about it citing a source in Termez.

According to the source, in recent days, several groups of Afghan refugees in an unauthorized way crossed the territory of Uzbekistan in the Termez district, while specialists were surprised how armed men in uniform swam across the Amu Darya.

“As it turned out, the creative Afghans used handmade rafts made from empty plastic bottles to cross the sufficiently deep river with a fast current, which are capable of holding a solid load on the surface of the water,” the source explained.

He added that it is very easy to manage such a cheap, practically weightless, silent and reliable floating object.

“In a matter of minutes, having crossed the river, all the violators surrendered to our border guards,” the source added.

Previously, it was reported that Uzbekistan temporarily housed about 150 Afghan refugees in a tent camp near the border, including 17 women and children.
