SCO foreign ministers to discuss steps in ensuring stability in Afghanistan

The Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Central Asia Natalia Gherman, the EU Special Representative for Central Asia Terhi Hakala, the Director of the OSCE Center for Conflict Prevention Tuula Yrjölä and the heads of OSCE missions took part in the meeting.

Vladimir Norov noted that achieving peace and stability in Afghanistan is one of the main factors in ensuring security in the SCO region and Central Asia.

“SCO countries will discuss specific actions on the on Afghanistan’s issue in the near future at a meeting of the SCO-Afghanistan Contact Group – foreign ministers will meet in Dushanbe on June 14,” Vladimir Norov said. “In this context, we intend to focus on implementing the joint roadmap of the SCO-Afghanistan Contact Group, adopted on June 14, 2019 in Bishkek, to help Afghanistan in becoming a country free from terrorism, war and drugs, as well as strengthen stability in the region and develop relations between the SCO member states and Afghanistan.”
