The Agency provided Kun.uz with detailed information on the construction of toll roads in Uzbekistan and the work being done in this direction.

It is reported that today the government has projects for the construction of Tashkent-Andijan and Tashkent-Samarkand toll roads.

The initial feasibility study for the construction of the Tashkent-Andijan toll road was developed by World Bank consultants and agreed with the relevant ministries and agencies in 2020. A pre-investment study consultant for the project is about to be identified. An international tender will be announced after a thorough examination.

An agreement has been signed with consultants from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development on the Tashkent-Samarkand toll road.

However, construction work on both projects has not yet begun. Construction work will begin after the signing of a PPP agreement with an international investor selected on the basis of a two-stage tender.

According to preliminary estimates, the total cost of the Tashkent-Andijan toll road project will exceed $2 billion. The construction period for a 340 km road can be 5-10 years, depending on the construction sequence.

The total capital cost of the Tashkent-Samarkand toll road will exceed $1.5 billion. It may take 5-8 years to realize the project.

According to preliminary estimates by the World Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the cost of using both toll roads is about $5 and $7 for cars and light trucks and $15 to $20 for trucks and buses.
