Draft law On State Genomic Registration approved in second reading
At the meeting of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis on October 14, the deputies discussed the draft law “On State Genomic Registration” in the second reading.

The draft law defines the authorized bodies, their rights and obligations in the sphere of state genomic registration, lays down the basic requirements for the collection, processing and protection of genomic information, regulates the procedure for obtaining, recording, storing, using and destroying biological material and genomic information.
As the Parliament notes, in recent years the country has taken consistent measures to ensure peace and tranquility of citizens, prevention of crime and offenses. In particular, the system uses modern methods and technologies to ensure efficiency. DNA databases have also proved to be an effective tool in the fight against crime. This information can be used to achieve high efficiency in crime detection.
According to the people’s representatives, the introduction of a mechanism for the detection of crimes on genomic databases will serve as a factor for the identification of the most complex, particularly serious and unsolved crimes, as well as the creation of a genomic database to facilitate the identification of persons missing.
According to the deputies, the adoption of this law will contribute to solving crimes through biological evidence and strengthen the evidence base of the judicial investigation bodies.
Following the discussions, the draft law was approved by the deputies.
