Senate Chairperson comments on incident of a woman who set herself on fire during forced eviction in Namangan
On September 29, a 35-year-old woman living in the city of Namangan protested to BCE officers who tried to evict her from the house she bought two and a half years ago and set herself on fire. As a result of burns on her body, she died on September 30.
The Chairperson of the Senate of Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva commented on the incident in her speech in the Yangikurgan district.
“I absolutely condemn this situation. Maybe the woman was wrong to a certain extent, perhaps the Bureau of Compulsory Enforcement (BCE) has made the right demand. But even then, the woman’s condition could be understood. One can notice if the interlocutor is tired, feeling nervous or is not in a state of being able to control themselves. This is something normal. Maybe the person has certain health issues.
In that particular case, the BCE could, by its internal decision, postpone the execution for a certain period of time, when the woman regained consciousness, explain it through her relatives, and then re-engage.
In my opinion, the Bureau of Compulsory Enforcement made a mistake,” the Chairperson of the Senate of Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva said during her speech in the Yangikurgan district.
Muzaffar Ismailov, an investigator of the Namangan city prosecutor’s office, told Kun.uz that the city prosecutor’s office had opened a criminal case on the incident of a woman who set herself on fire during the forced eviction under Article 103-1 of the Criminal Code (bringing oneself to the point of suicide).
