The President of Uzbekistan has offered the former head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Suma Chakrabarti the post of Adviser on economic development. He announced this on his Twitter.
“Full of joy as I have just heard that President Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan is appointing me as his Adviser on economic development, effective governance and international cooperation,” he wrote.
Chakrabarti noted that he is looking forward to helping the head of Uzbekistan in implementing his reform agenda.
Chakrabarti also said that he was appointed advisor to the President of Kazakhstan on economic development. The press service of Akorda noted that Suma Chakrabarti was included in the Supreme Presidential Council for Reforms, formed by the decree of the head of state on September 14.
Suma Chakrabarti served as President of the EBRD from 2012 to July 2020. Prior to joining the EBRD, Chakrabarti had a successful career in the United Kingdom civil service and was Permanent Secretary (most senior civil servant) at the Department for International Development (2002-2007) and the Ministry of Justice (2007-2012). He was knighted in 2006 for his work in international development.
