Officials must correctly accept criticism from the media and adhere to ethical standards when dealing with journalists, Senate Chairperson of Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva said on Saturday, Kun.uz correspondent reports.

“Today, the attention of all leaders is drawn to the problems of concern to the population, which are arisen by the mass media. They not only identify them, but also offer new and innovative solutions. Therefore, it is necessary to turn communication with the people and the media into a tradition, strictly adhering to ethical standards,” Narbaeva said during the XXIV plenary session of the Senate. 

She emphasized that it is necessary to correctly accept criticism from the mass media. “Freedom of opinion and expression is one of the foundations of a democratic state,” the head of the Parliament’s upper house said.

“Openness in all areas of public life is a requirement of the time. There is no other way and this must be admitted,” Narbayeva added.
