Uzbekistan, Canada eye to strengthen bilateral cooperation

On November 22, Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov received the Special Envoy of the Prime Minister of Canada for the European Union and Europe, former Foreign Minister Stéphane Dion, the MFA press service reports.

At the meeting, the parties analyzed the current state of bilateral relations and prospects for their further development, including within the UN and other international organizations.

It was noted that over the past three years there has been an intensification of contacts at the level of parliaments, ministries of foreign affairs, and business circles of the two countries. For the first time in the history of relations, an Uzbek-Canadian-American business forum was held in May in Navoi, which attracted representatives of 32 leading Canadian companies. Uzbekistan introduced a simplified visa procedure for citizens of Canada starting from February 2018.

Interest was confirmed in further building up interaction, giving it a multifaceted character. As it was noted at the meeting, the expansion of mutually beneficial ties in the trade and economic sphere will be facilitated primarily by the implementation of joint projects involving advanced Canadian technologies and investments.

The parties reviewed the schedule of upcoming bilateral events.
