Consideration of the senatorial activity of Shukhrat Ganyiev, the regional khokim of Fergana, will be a warning signal to other officials, Chairman of the Senate Commission on regulation and ethics Ikboljon Mirzaaliyev said.

“I have been chairing the Commission for a very long time, but this is the first time we have put this issue on the agenda. Our meeting is a warning signal to others. The matter is not only the current case, but also the system as a whole,” Mirzaaliev said at the Commission meeting on September 30.

According to the Commission members, this is not the first time that the regional khokim uses foul language that infringe on the legitimate rights and interests of citizens, and also degrades their honor and dignity. As a result, his words cause a wide negative resonance.

“Members of the commission started calling me as soon as they heard about the case. This morning we got together and discussed everything. We all very seriously condemn the Shukhrat Ganiyev’s actions. We made a proposal to take measures in connection with his actions, so that it would be an example for others,” Mirzaaliyev noted.

Following the meeting of the Commission on regulation and ethics, the Senate Chairman Tanzila Narbayeva proposed that the commission issue a strict warning to Shukhrat Ganiyev and give a three-month probationary period. No members of the Commission opposed against the decision.

It should be recalled that the reason for convening the Commission was the audio recording disseminated on social networks in which the khokim of the Fergana region Shukhrat Ganiyev ordered his subordinates not to allow women to wear headscarves.

Later at a meeting yesterday, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that no one in Uzbekistan can prohibit women from wearing a headscarf.
