Uzbekistan applied to join Turkic Council

Uzbekistan officially applied to join the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (Turkic Council), Foreign Minister of Turkey Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said.
“Uzbekistan decided to join the Turkic Council. They officially applied to the secretariat,” Daily Sabah quotes Çavuşoğlu as saying.
According to the minister, membership documents have already been sent to Tashkent. The formal entry process will be completed shortly.
“Turkmenistan also wants to be the observer state in the council. We received a positive signal from Turkmenistan for the first time,” Çavuşoğlu added.
The Turkic Council was established in 2009 as a global intergovernmental organization an aim to promote comprehensive cooperation among Turkic speaking states.
