On August 30, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on creation of the Agency for Space Research and Technology “Uzbekcosmos”.

The “Uzbekcosmos” Agency will become the government body responsible for the development and implementation of a unified state policy and strategic directions in the field of space research and technology.

Director General, Deputy Director General of the “Uzbekcosmos” Agency will be appointed and dismissed by the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers. The Director General of the Agency by status, terms of remuneration, medical and transport services is equal to the First Deputy Minister, Deputy General Directors - to Deputy Ministers.

The main objectives of “Uzbekcosmos” Agency are:

- developing and implementing a unified state policy and strategic directions in the field of space research and technology;

- working out and implementing state programs for development of the space industry in the Republic of Uzbekistan;

- preparing proposals for improving legislation in the field of space activities, space research and technology, including the development of draft regulatory legal acts;

- exercising state control over compliance with legislation in the field of space activities in order to ensure the required level of its development, organizing the implementation of core and related activities, and rendering services;

- preparing and implementing comprehensive measures to develop the infrastructure of the space industry, space research and technology, scientific-research and development, experimental design and innovative work, etc.
